Specialized Aero Supports Commemorative Air Force with Aircraft Painting and Interiors

Specialized Aero provides heavy aircraft maintenance and is a sister company of Tejas Aero, who provides aircraft painting and interior solutions for CAF's collection of combat aircraft. These aircraft were flown by all military services of the United States and selected aircraft of other nations. The CAF's objectives are to acquire, restore, and preserve in flying condition, a complete collection of combat aircraft.

Some services provided by Specialized Aero are a complete welding shop for repairs on exhaust systems, castings and other weldable components, along with composites, sheetmetal repair, NDT and maintenance inspections on parts that are no longer available for replacement.  Tejas Aero offers complete aircraft refurbishment of paint and interior solutions, including touch-up repairs, corrosion treatment and protection of aluminum, magnesium and steel, that come with complete painting with reviews.

Prepped for Painting

The P-39 Airacobra, which resides in the CAF’s fleet, was one of the principal American fighter aircraft in service when the United States entered World war II.  Designed by Bell Aircraft, it has an innovative layout, with the engine, an Allison V-1710 liquid -cooled V-12 installed behind the pilot in the center fuselage, and a driving tractor propeller via a long shaft. The fuselage structure was unusual and innovative, as it was based on a strong central keel that incorporated the armament, cockpit, and engine.

The P-39 has two strong fuselage beams to port and starboard that formed the basis of the structure - these angled upwards, fore and aft, to create mounting points for the T9 cannon and propeller reaction gearbox, and for the engine and accessories, respectively. A strong arched bulkhead provided the main structural attachment point for the main spar of the wing. This arch incorporated a fire proof panel and an armor plate between the engine and the cockpit.  The P-39 was one of the most successful fixed-wing aircraft manufactured by Bell and received many reviews. Tejas Aero revitalized this aircraft by prepping and repainting it, using its original paint scheme.

The CAF Organization was originally known as the Confederate Air Force. On January 1, 2002, the name was changed to the Commemorative Air Force. Collecting aircraft for nearly half a century, the CAF now ranks as one of the largest air forces in the world. Today, the CAF has approximately 13,000 members and a fleet of more than 175 aircraft, representing more than 60 different types. Specialized Aero and Tejas Aero are pleased to support the CAF with its objectives of preserving this complete collection of combat aircraft for the education and enjoyment of present and future generations of Americans as well as Aircraft Painting and Interior solutions for all general aviation aircraft.
